After moxibustion, everyone has more or less some reactions. Experiencing excessive internal heat, or "fire," after moxibustion is a common manifestation, with symptoms such as dry mouth and tongue, red and swollen gums, dizziness, sore throat, fever, constipation, etc. The main reason for the occurrence of internal heat is that the normal human body maintains a balance of Yin and Yang. Moxibustion stimulates the body's Yang energy, and after the treatment, the balance of Yin and Yang in the body is temporarily disrupted, leading to an upward extension of Yang energy, which is manifested in the body as symptoms of "excessive fire." When excessive internal heat occurs after moxibustion, there is no need to worry, as it is a normal response to the treatment. Moreover, if the amount of moxibustion is too strong, it can also lead to the phenomenon of "excessive fire." Therefore, it is important to control the amount of moxibustion to avoid exacerbating the condition. Here are several ways to prevent excessive internal heat during moxibustion: 1. Control the amount of moxibustion. Fully perceive the temperature and adjust the time and heat of moxibustion according to personal tolerance (the moxibustion device can control this by adjusting the distance between the skin and the moxibustion head). 2. Choose high-quality moxa cakes. Inferior moxa is more likely to cause internal heat, while good quality moxa can help prevent it. 3. Replenish fluids appropriately after moxibustion. Moxibustion can accelerate metabolism and fluid circulation (which may manifest as frequent urination), so it is important to replenish fluids after treatment. 4. Pay attention to proper rest during moxibustion. Adjust your daily routine and diet to be light during the moxibustion period. If the internal heat is severe, you can pause the moxibustion for one day and then resume it after recovery; if it is not severe, you can continue with the treatment, and the symptoms of internal heat will naturally disappear as the body adapts. 5. Use diet to reduce internal heat after it occurs. First, eat less spicy and stimulating food to keep stools from being dry and urine clear; second, consume mung bean porridge, lotus leaf porridge, or mung bean soup, and lotus seed soup (with the heart of the lotus seed); third, eat more foods like hawthorn and yam that strengthen the spleen, stimulate the appetite, and aid digestion; fourth, drink plenty of plain water or salt-sugar water daily to reduce internal heat. Additionally, you can eat more heat-clearing foods like bitter melon and mung bean soup. Use 3 grams of winter mulberry leaves, along with white rhizome and ophiopogon, and add some licorice to make a tea, which can also help clear heat and reduce internal fire. 6. Moxibustion on the Taixi, Zhaohai, and Yongquan acupoints can guide water upward and fire downward; moxibustion on the Sanyinjiao acupoint can regulate and nourish the Yin, strengthen the spleen, and benefit the liver and kidneys.
