During the process of moxibustion, different people's constitutions may lead to different reactions. Some people feel very good and gladly accept the treatment, while others may experience a rebound of the disease, such as increased pain or menstrual irregularities, which can be misunderstood and not easily accepted, thinking that this is bad. However, these are actually normal rebound phenomena of the disease. If you continue to practice moxibustion and persist, you will receive unexpected results. Here is a list of specific reactions that may occur in the body during the moxibustion process and the effects they represent, for your reference: 1. No special feeling. When the recipient first undergoes moxibustion, they only feel the skin at the site of the treatment is a little hot, with no other feelings, indicating that the recipient's meridians are not unobstructed and the body is relatively cold. 2. Half-body heat sensation. During moxibustion, the upper body is hot or only the lower body is hot, indicating that the meridians of the half-body without heat sensation are not very unobstructed. 3. First hot, then not hot. It feels very hot at the beginning of the moxibustion, but after a while, it feels not hot anymore. This is a normal process of moxibustion, indicating that the meridians have adapted, and the amount of moxibustion can be increased later. 4. Heat transmission sensation. Some people feel that the heat can be transmitted to the perineum, indicating that moxibustion is unblocking the Ren meridian and has an effect on the urinary system. Some people feel that the abdominal cavity is hot to the lower back, up to the Baihui point, and down to the Yongquan point, indicating that the recipient's meridians are gradually unobstructed, and the effect of moxibustion is good. 5. Cold sensation. That is, feeling a cool breeze after moxibustion. People with a cold constitution are more likely to have this phenomenon, and this group of people should do more moxibustion. 6. Meridian skipping sensation. Also called getting Qi, it is a tingling feeling, which is a good phenomenon. Some people feel a stream of hot air forming in the lower abdomen during the moxibustion process, which can form an air flow with the person's consciousness, flowing back and forth in the body's meridians, up to the top of the head, down to the soles of the feet, with different feelings of sourness, numbness, swelling, and pain in the places passed, just like practicing Qigong, which is also a very good phenomenon. 7. Sweating. Moxibustion is best with a slight sweating all over the body, especially on the forehead, palms, and soles. Those who are prone to excessive sweating during moxibustion indicate that the recipient's body is relatively weak; those who sweat cold on the palms or soles and then hot sweat indicate that the recipient's body has a heavy cold, and cold sweat indicates that the body is expelling the cold; continuous sweating after moxibustion indicates that the recipient's body has a heavy dampness. Ai is the purest Yang fire, which can help expel dampness and cold. 8. Heavy feeling. That is, the heart feels like it is being pressed by a stone. It indicates that the recipient's blood circulation is not smooth, the meridians are not unobstructed, and more moxibustion should be done. 9. Abdominal rumbling or flatulence. That is, the stomach is rumbling or passing gas. This is a good phenomenon of moxibustion promoting intestinal peristalsis and helping the body expel turbid qi. 10. Oil on the abdomen or lower back. It indicates that the blood is thick, blood lipids are high, or there are too many blood toxins and garbage, and moxibustion should be continued. 11. Dry mouth, dry tongue, and sore throat. After moxibustion, feeling thirsty is a very typical symptom of the upper body being full and the lower body being empty. You can moxibust the Laogong point and the Yongquan point to nourish yin and reduce fire. It is recommended to drink more water during the period, and you can also alternate with scraping and cupping. To relieve sore throat, you can moxibust the Tiantu, Quchi, Hegu, and Zhaohai points. 12. Flushed complexion. After moxibustion, the complexion becomes ruddy and shiny, and the skin is full and moist. Keep it up, and the pigmentation will slowly fade, and acne will disappear. 13. Sour and painful sensation, fatigue, and drowsiness (also during the day). After moxibustion, increased sour and painful sensation indicates that the recipient has rheumatism in the body, and there is too much garbage inside, which requires more moxibustion; and a general feeling of fatigue and sleepiness indicates that the recipient's constitution is weak, blood circulation is poor, Qi and blood are insufficient, and blood circulation accelerates after moxibustion, so the first two or three times, there will be a phenomenon of fatigue and drowsiness. Continue with moxibustion, and it will improve. 14. Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, unstable emotions, and feeling a heavy head. This indicates that the recipient has weak heart function, insufficient myocardial blood supply, and thick blood. 15. Waist, kidneys, and urine. Soreness in the kidney area, sore and cold waist, increased urine volume, and changes in urine color indicate that the recipient has poor kidney function, insufficient kidney Qi, and Yang deficiency. Frequent urination, urgent urination, and white urine also indicate that the recipient has kidney Yang deficiency and needs more moxibustion. 16. Yellow water or blisters in the navel area. After moxibustion, there is a phenomenon of yellow water or blisters in the navel area, indicating that the recipient (if female) may have gynecological inflammation, or the recipient may have gastrointestinal inflammation or intestinal dampness and cold, and severe people will have a ring of hard skin around the navel. 17. Female private parts. If female friends feel itchy in the lower abdomen after moxibustion, an increase in discharge or blood clots, this indicates that the recipient may have gynecological diseases. Itching in the perineum, rashes, increased and odoriferous vaginal discharge, and other symptoms are manifestations of the expulsion of dampness and heat, and more moxibustion is needed. 18. Female menstruation. After moxibustion, there may be a short-term menstrual disorder such as early or delayed menstruation, vaginal bleeding or increased blood clots outside the menstrual period, which is a manifestation of the expulsion of blood stasis in the uterus, and it is also a relatively normal phenomenon during moxibustion. Because the effect of Ai first goes to the reproductive systems of men and women, so the first three months of women doing moxibustion is the menstrual adjustment period, and menstruation may be early or delayed. After continuous moxibustion conditioning, the menstrual cycle will slowly return to normal. 19. Blisters and rashes. Blisters and rashes appear after moxibustion, indicating that the recipient has too much dampness and blood toxins in the body, and this phenomenon needs more moxibustion. 20. Cough and yellow phlegm. Coughing and having yellow phlegm after moxibustion indicate that the recipient has lung fire. If the body cannot bear the reaction brought by continuing to moxibust, you can temporarily reduce or stop moxibustion, and then continue after a slight improvement. 21. Mental excitement, insomnia, headache, and dizziness. This indicates that the recipient has a hot constitution, and there is fire in the upper jiao. Scraping and cupping can be done on the back, and bloodletting can be done on the Dazhui point by professionals when necessary. In home health care, quickly place the patient in an environment with smooth air flow, let the patient lie flat, then do neck dredging massage, and let the patient drink more water. 22. Joint pain. Joint pain after moxibustion indicates that there is a blockage of cold and damp qi in the joints. 23. Oral ulcers, acne, and constipation. This is a manifestation of a strong stomach fire. Scraping can be done on the stomach meridian to reduce fire, and some cool and moist foods can be eaten. 24. Eczema, itching, and red bumps. Eczema, itching, and red bumps appear after moxibustion, which is due to the heavy dampness of the spleen and stomach, and more moxibustion is needed. If the body cannot bear the increased amount of moxibustion, moxibustion can be temporarily stopped for a period of time. 25. Diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. These are signs of severe deficiency and cold in the spleen and stomach. Simply increase the amount of moxibustion. Unless caused by other diseases, it is recommended not to go to the hospital for infusion. 26. Hiccups. This is due to stagnation of qi in the stomach and intestines and will disappear on its own without treatment. 27. Reactions to dispelling wind and cold. According to clinical observations, most patients exhibit reactions of expelling wind and cold, which often manifest as sneezing, runny nose, colds, sore throat, joint pain, and flatulence. Some may feel a cool breeze emanating from the top of the head or the extremities, and in more severe cases, the whole body or half of the body feels cold, and even two thick quilts cannot help. The body temperature is normal, and the reaction usually lasts for one or two days or three to five months. 28.Soothing the Liver and Relieving Depression Reaction. The manifestation of expelling stagnated qi is primarily characterized by emotional changes such as restlessness, irritability, a tendency to be discontent with everyone, and susceptibility to crying due to sadness or a sense of grievance. These reactions are often accompanied by hiccups, anal flatulence, and aching in the liver and gallbladder areas as well as their reflex zones. This type of reaction is especially common in female patients with introverted personalities who are prone to holding in emotions, with the duration typically ranging from several hours to 1-3 days, and in a few cases, it can last for several months. 29. Metabolism of phlegm and dampness reactions. The expulsion of phlegm and dampness is mainly manifested by coughing and vomiting, increased phlegm, vomiting, phlegm and saliva, or abdominal pain, diarrhea, watery stools, and viscous, cool stools. There may be edema in the head, face, limbs, half of the body, or even the whole body, difficulty urinating, or frequent, turbid, and pungent-smelling urination, and local or whole-body cold sweat or sticky sweat. The sensation of moxibustion can change from the initial dull type to the sensitive type. 30. Reactions related to expelling heat and toxic pathogens. The expulsion of heat and toxic pathogens is mostly manifested by itching sores, boils, fever, eczema with intense itching, papules on the skin or body, recurrence of previously grown abscesses, or a burning sensation during urination or defecation. Rest assured, as long as it is completely expelled, it will slowly recover. 31. Reactions related to expelling blood stasis. Blood stasis blocked in the meridians on the body surface is expelled in the form of bruising: if blocked in the stomach and intestines, it is mostly expelled through dark brown or soy sauce-colored stool; if blocked in the heart and lungs, it is mostly expelled with blood streaks or blood clots in the sputum; if blocked in the uterus, it is mostly expelled with menstrual blood, and there may even be tissue lumps or rotten meat inside. People with hemorrhoids may temporarily have bloody stools, and the color is dark. 32. Reactions related to sleep. After moxibustion therapy, most people's sleep conditions will change. Some people feel weak and sleepy after moxibustion, and then suffer from insomnia for several days (even if they are insomniac, they do not feel weak, dizzy, or lose their appetite), and some people suffer from insomnia for more than ten days and then enter a state of always wanting to sleep. However, sleep will eventually return to normal. 33. Fever reaction. The fever reaction is one of the comprehensive and intense reactions of the whole body, which usually appears after the body's self-recovery function is fully utilized, indicating vigorous qi and blood, enhanced physique, and a turning point for the body from quantitative change to qualitative change. Generally, the high fever reaction has a body temperature of 39-40 degrees, and the reaction lasts for about a week; a few patients with low fever have a body temperature between 37.5-38 degrees, and the reaction lasts for more than ten days or even one to two months. 34. Symptoms similar to allergies. Many people have a lot of red rashes on their bodies after moxibustion, and they often think they are allergic. In fact, these symptoms are all manifestations of the genuine Yang Qi driving out the cold evil, and they are also reactions of the evil on the body surface. If moxibustion is stopped at this time, the evil will enter and erode the viscera. If the skin condition is severe at this time, bloodletting therapy can be used to let the evil out. Professionals can perform bloodletting at Dazhui, the Shu points of the foot Taiyang Bladder meridian, and Weizhong acupoint to give the evil a way out. 35. Disease exacerbation reaction. This is a normal phenomenon of the battle between the righteous and the evil. Our human body is a whole with Yin and Yang, and it will not only allow the righteous Qi to exist and expel all the evil Qi. The evil has been living in the body for a long time and will not easily give in, so there will inevitably be reactions at this time. When moxibustion is used to stimulate the righteous Qi and expel the evil Qi, the evil Qi will resist tenaciously first. When the righteous Qi is insufficient and the evil Qi is strong, the body will show various discomfort reactions. Gradually with moxibustion, the righteous Qi in the body will accumulate more and more, and the evil will gradually be expelled from the body. 36. The wandering phenomenon of moxibustion. Sometimes when moxibustion is applied to the Zhongwan point, there may be discomfort in the liver area or the epigastric area, which may indicate that the recipient has hidden dangers in the liver or stomach; sometimes when moxibustion is applied to the Guanyuan point, it may reflect hidden dangers in gynecology or prostate problems or some diseases in the reproductive system. At this time, moxibustion is actively helping the body adjust, which is the function of the wandering of moxibustion. (In other words, our body has a self-adjusting function, as long as it is well mobilized, it will work. The rise and fall of the body's "Yin and Yang" have their fixed laws, and when the original Qi is gradually sufficient, "Yin and Yang" will inevitably operate according to its laws) 37. The phenomenon of disease recurrence. Diseases that have been suffered before may recur many times. Although it is a recurrence, the feeling is generally not as strong as when the disease occurred before. Those who have had hemorrhoids will also have an attack, and they will change from internal hemorrhoids to external hemorrhoids, which can heal by themselves in about ten days or half a month. Be sure to persist in moxibustion. Warm reminder: Moxibustion is a long-term process of persistence. To regulate physical diseases, one must not give up halfway!
