Moxibustion Treatment

Gout.

Symptom Analysis

Gout is a crystal-related joint disease caused by the deposition of monosodium urate (MSU), directly related to purine metabolism disorders and (or) reduced uric acid excretion, leading to hyperuricemia. It specifically refers to acute characteristic arthritis and chronic tophaceous disease, mainly including acute episodic arthritis, tophi formation, tophaceous chronic arthritis, urate nephropathy, and uric acid urinary calculi. Severe cases can result in joint deformity and renal insufficiency. Gout is often accompanied by symptoms such as abdominal obesity, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.

Gout can be divided into primary and secondary categories based on the cause. Primary gout refers to the condition caused by congenital purine metabolism disorders and (or) uric acid excretion disorders, excluding other diseases; secondary gout refers to the condition caused by reduced uric acid excretion due to kidney diseases or certain medications, increased uric acid production due to myeloproliferative diseases, and increased uric acid generation due to tumor chemotherapy.

Moxibustion Acupoint Selection

Treatment Course

It is recommended to perform moxibustion once a day, targeting 2 to 3 acupoints each time, with each acupoint being treated for 30 to 40 minutes. Rotate the points treated, with a 10-day period constituting one course of treatment, and then rest for 2 to 3 days before continuing with the next course.

(If time permits and there is a need, more acupoints can be treated with moxibustion. The specific duration should be adjusted according to one's own physical needs.)
