Moxibustion Treatment

Insomnia with Nighttime Startle

Symptom Analysis

Pediatric sleep terrors, also known as night terrors, are a common sleep disorder in children characterized by sudden awakenings from sleep with crying out, expressions and movements of panic, staring eyes, flailing limbs, increased heart rate, rapid breathing, sweating, and other symptoms.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is believed that children have lower immunity and are more susceptible to external pathogenic factors. Once these factors such as dampness and cold invade the body, they can easily lead to the formation of phlegm and fire, which can confuse the mind. Additionally, high fever, inflammation, and fright are also causes of this issue.

Treatment Course

It is recommended to perform moxibustion once a day, targeting 2 to 3 acupoints each time, with each acupoint being treated for 30 to 40 minutes. Rotate the points treated, with a 10-day period constituting one course of treatment, and then rest for 2 to 3 days before continuing with the next course.

(If time permits and there is a need, more acupoints can be treated with moxibustion. The specific duration should be adjusted according to one's own physical needs.)

Life Tips

1. Parents should ensure that children have a regular routine and avoid excessive fatigue and excitement during the day.

2. Do not tell stories that are tense or exciting before bedtime, avoid watching horror movies, and do not use threatening methods to coax children to sleep.

3. Allow children to relax fully before bed and fall asleep in a relaxed and happy mood.

4. Help children to ease their minds. After excluding physiological and physical factors, parents should try to avoid events that may trigger night terrors and objectively relieve the child's psychological pressure.

5. Use storytelling and games to provide targeted psychological guidance for children, helping them to relieve anxiety, relax, and develop a cheerful personality.
