Stroke coma, syncope, heatstroke, mania, delirium, epilepsy, acute and chronic convulsions, nasal congestion, nosebleed, edema of the face due to water retention, toothache, locked jaw, jaundice, thirst, generalized edema, cholera, epidemic diseases, convulsions in children, back and waist pain, and pain from waist injury.
Located below the nose, at the point where the upper and lower thirds of the groove above the upper lip meet, it is an important acupoint for emergency treatment of fainting.
Recline or lie supine. On the face, at the upper 1/3 of the philtral column (the groove from the base of the nose to the upper lip), the spot where there is a sour and distended sensation upon firm pressure is the location of this acupoint.
