Sudden muteness with qi (energy) obstruction, sore throat and swelling, tuberculous lymphadenitis, goiter.
Located on the lateral side of the neck, at the posterior edge of the sternocleidomastoid muscle, next to the Adam's apple, at the midpoint of the line connecting the Beside the Prominence (LI-18) acupoint and the Empty Basin (ST-12) acupoint. (This acupoint is paired, one on each side)
Step 1: Sit upright with the head slightly tilted. Step 2: Identify the Beside the Prominence (LI-18) acupoint: The midpoint of the sternal head of the sternocleidomastoid muscle, level with the Adam's apple, is the Beside the Prominence (LI-18) acupoint. Step 3: Identify the Empty Basin (ST-12) acupoint: A vertical line through the nipple can reach a long bone (clavicle), and the midpoint of the depression above this bone is the Empty Basin (ST-12) acupoint. Step 4: The midpoint of the line connecting Beside the Prominence (LI-18) and Empty Basin (ST-12) is the location of this acupoint.
