Moxibustion Treatment

Bone spurs (osteophyte)

Symptom Analysis

Bone spurs, also known as osteophytes or enthesophytes, are a form of degenerative bone change and a manifestation of arthritis. The elderly, particularly those of advanced age, are the primary group affected by this condition. As people age, the functions of the liver and kidneys decline or become imbalanced, leading to a loss of nourishment from kidney essence. With a decrease in synovial fluid in the joints and a reduction in bone calcium density, pain may occur.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the kidney is considered the foundation of congenital essence, but it relies on the spleen and stomach to transform the essence of grains after birth. This means that the source of body fluids, such as essence, body fluids, and saliva, comes from the spleen, which is considered the basis of acquired constitution. Therefore, moxibustion is used for conditioning by tonifying the spleen yang and kidney yang.

Moxibustion Acupoint Selection

Treatment Course

It is recommended to perform moxibustion once a day, targeting 2 to 3 acupoints each time, with each acupoint being treated for 30 to 40 minutes. Rotate the points treated, with a 10-day period constituting one course of treatment, and then rest for 2 to 3 days before continuing with the next course.

(If time permits and there is a need, more acupoints can be treated with moxibustion. The specific duration should be adjusted according to one's own physical needs.)
