Torticollis in children generally refers to congenital torticollis, which is caused by the contraction of the sternocleidomastoid muscle on one side, leading to the head tilting to one side. Infants are not deformed at birth, but about 10 days after birth, a lump appears that gradually transforms into a contraction of the sternocleidomastoid muscle, resulting in torticollis. Congenital torticollis is a common condition, and early diagnosis and treatment are very important for preventing secondary deformities of the head, face, and cervical spine.
Liver and Kidney Deficiency Type: The child's head tilts towards the affected side, the face turns towards the healthy side, a cord-like swelling can be found on one side of the neck, accompanied by poor development of the cervical vertebrae and scoliosis; the tongue is pale, the pulse is thin, and the fingerprint is pale red.
Trauma and Stasis Type: The child has a history of being injured by the birth canal or forceps during delivery. The child's head tilts towards the affected side, the face turns towards the healthy side, a cord-like swelling can be found on one side of the neck, and bruising can be seen on the neck. Touching it causes the child to cry more intensely; the tongue is pale and dark, the pulse is unsmooth, and the fingerprint is purplish red.
It is recommended to perform moxibustion once a day, targeting 2 to 3 acupoints each time, with each acupoint being treated for 30 to 40 minutes. Rotate the points treated, with a 10-day period constituting one course of treatment, and then rest for 2 to 3 days before continuing with the next course. (If time permits and there is a need, more acupoints can be treated with moxibustion. The specific duration should be adjusted according to one's own physical needs.)
Topical application method: Mugwort leaves, Ephedra, Cinnamon twig, Mulberry leaf, Saposhnikovia root, Papaya, Notopterygium, and Pueraria root, each 10 grams, wrapped in gauze and boiled in water for 10 minutes, remove the gauze and filter out the medicinal liquid, place the gauze bag on the neck for a hot compress for 5 to 10 minutes. Once a day, 10 times constitute one course of treatment.
