Moxibustion Treatment

Hyperplasia of the Mammary Glands

Symptom Analysis

Breast hyperplasia is the most common breast disease in women, characterized by the proliferation of epithelial cells of the mammary gland ducts and connective tissue as the basic pathological changes. The initial symptom of this disease is often a feeling of swelling in the breast accompanied by a dull ache. The pain is often variable, intensifying before menstruation, and can also worsen with emotional changes, fatigue, and weather changes.

Symptoms of breast hyperplasia include:
1. The most prominent feature is its cyclical nature; it often occurs or worsens during the premenstrual phase and significantly decreases or disappears after menstruation.
2. The condition can occur in all age groups but is more common between the ages of 25 and 45.
3. The masses are often multiple and can be found on one or both sides, limited to a part of the breast, or scattered throughout the entire breast.
4. The masses are nodular, varying in size, tough yet with a cystic feel, and are not adherent to the skin or deep tissues, allowing for movement.
5. Occasionally, there may be a sensation of sourness and swelling in the armpits and upper back, but the axillary lymph nodes are not enlarged.
6. Breast pain is related to emotions and the level of fatigue.
7. There may occasionally be nipple discharge, which can be yellow, greenish-yellow, or colorless and serous.

Moxibustion can be used to regulate breast hyperplasia by targeting the following acupoints, selecting 3 to 4 points each time, to achieve the effects of soothing the liver, strengthening the spleen, activating blood circulation, resolving phlegm, and dispersing lumps.

Moxibustion Acupoint Selection

Treatment Course

It is recommended to perform moxibustion once a day, targeting 2 to 3 acupoints each time, with each acupoint being treated for 30 to 40 minutes. Rotate the points treated, with a 10-day period constituting one course of treatment, and then rest for 2 to 3 days before continuing with the next course.

(If time permits and there is a need, more acupoints can be treated with moxibustion. The specific duration should be adjusted according to one's own physical needs.)

Life Tips

1. Maintain breast cleanliness by frequently washing with warm boiled water and monitor any changes in breast lumps.

2. Patients should regularly consume kelp, which has the effect of relieving pain and reducing the size of lumps. Consume more oranges and dried orange peels, which help to promote the circulation of qi and disperse lumps. Avoid raw, cold, and spicy irritating foods.

3. Keep a pleasant mood.

4. Food therapy recipe: Emerald Kelp Porridge. Kelp 150 grams, celery 200 grams, carrot 80 grams. Cut the kelp into fine shreds, and dice the celery and carrot. Put them into a pot, add an appropriate amount of water and seasonings, bring to a boil, then add a small amount of starch, and continue to cook for 4 minutes. This porridge is especially suitable for the phlegm-dampness blockage type of breast hyperplasia.
