Moxibustion Treatment

Keratitis (Photophobia, Epiphora)

Symptom Analysis

Keratitis is a common external eye disease caused by bacterial or viral infections, which can lead to blindness if severe. The symptoms of this disease include a foreign body sensation, stabbing pain, or burning sensation in the affected eye, mixed congestion on the surface of the bulbar conjunctiva, as well as photophobia, and epiphora. Based on pathological changes, keratitis is divided into acute, chronic, purulent, and non-purulent, granulomatous types.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this disease is essentially considered to be externally contracted. Therefore, when using moxibustion to condition this disease, 2-3 acupoints are taken each time according to different symptoms for moxibustion, in order to expel wind and clear heat, and to clear the liver and drain fire.

Moxibustion Acupoint Selection

Treatment Course

It is recommended to perform moxibustion once a day, targeting 2 to 3 acupoints each time, with each acupoint being treated for 30 to 40 minutes. Rotate the points treated, with a 10-day period constituting one course of treatment, and then rest for 2 to 3 days before continuing with the next course.

(If time permits and there is a need, more acupoints can be treated with moxibustion. The specific duration should be adjusted according to one's own physical needs.)

Life Tips

A deficiency of vitamin B in the retina of the eye can lead to photophobia, tearing, burning pain, and itching, as well as spasms of the eye muscles. After suffering from keratitis, one should consume more vitamin-rich foods such as grains, liver, yeast, beans, milk, etc., and also eat more fruits and vegetables. The diet should be light, avoiding alcohol, smoking, and spicy foods. In daily life, avoid over-fatigue of the eyes.
