Moxibustion Treatment

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD)

Symptom Analysis

Coronary Heart Disease, also known as Coronary Artery Disease, is also referred to as ischemic heart disease. It is a condition where the heart muscle's function and structure are impaired due to the narrowing of the coronary arteries and insufficient blood supply. It is one of the most common types of heart disease. During an attack, patients may experience a pressing pain in the central chest that can radiate to the neck, jaw, arms, back, and stomach, along with dizziness, shortness of breath, sweating, chills, nausea, and fainting. Severe cases may lead to death due to heart failure.

Patients with heart disease should have a dedicated person supervising when undergoing moxibustion therapy. If the patient experiences any discomfort such as feeling unwell at heart during the treatment, it should be stopped immediately. Additionally, the duration of moxibustion should be short. For patients who have had stents placed in their hearts, moxibustion should be approached with extra caution, and it is generally not recommended.

Moxibustion Acupoint Selection

Auxiliary Acupoint Selection

Symptom One: Weakness, shortness of breath, fatigue, overall lack of strength, and soreness in the limbs.
Symptom Two: Feeling cold, aversion to cold.
Symptom Three: Cyanosis of the lips, cyanosis of the fingertips.

Treatment Course

It is recommended to perform moxibustion once a day, targeting 2 to 3 acupoints each time, with each acupoint being treated for 30 to 40 minutes. Rotate the points treated, with a 10-day period constituting one course of treatment, and then rest for 2 to 3 days before continuing with the next course.

(If time permits and there is a need, more acupoints can be treated with moxibustion. The specific duration should be adjusted according to one's own physical needs.)

Life Tips

2. Coronary heart disease is one of the common conditions among the elderly. In addition to medication, in daily life, dietary adjustments and controls should be made as follows:

   (1) The diet should be diverse and easily digestible. Elderly people often have weakened spleen and stomach functions. Greasy, fried, spicy, raw, and cold foods should be consumed cautiously or in moderation, and one should not be overly hungry or overly full. Foods should be chosen to be tender, soft, and easily digestible so that nutrients can play their role effectively.
