Moxibustion Treatment

Pediatric Febrile Seizures (Convulsions, Acute Convulsions) Recovery and Conditioning

Symptom Analysis

Convulsive syncope is characterized by sudden onset, high fever, and convulsions, and is a common emergency in infants and young children. This condition can occur in any season, but it is generally more common in children aged 1 to 5 years old. Clinically, it is mainly manifested by fever, unconsciousness, convulsions of the hands and feet, pursing of the lips, clenching of the teeth, staring eyes, stiff neck, and even opisthotonos. This disease is equivalent to modern medical conditions such as meningitis, encephalitis B, high fever in children, epilepsy, etc.

Convulsive syncope falls within the category of "acute convulsion" in traditional Chinese medicine. It is often caused by external pathogens, internal phlegm-heat accumulation, or sudden fright.

Moxibustion Acupoint Selection

Auxiliary Acupoint Selection

External Shock Type of Convulsion: The onset is sudden, with symptoms of fever, headache, cough, and runny nose, red throat, red face and lips, restlessness, followed by unconsciousness, convulsions of the limbs, upward gaze, and clenched teeth; the tongue coating is thin and yellow, and the pulse is floating and rapid.
Additional Acupoints: 【(GB-20) Wind Pool Acupoint】
Phlegm-Heat Convulsion Type: The patient has a fever with profuse yellow phlegm, vomiting and diarrhea, rales in the throat, abdominal bloating and pain, constipation or foul-smelling stool, or convulsions with a startled spirit; the tongue coating is greasy, and the pulse is slippery.
Startled Fear Type of Convulsion: The patient has restless sleep at night, frequent episodes of being startled, cold limbs, restless convulsions or a state of unconsciousness, crying after waking up, and facial complexion that changes from pale to purple; the tongue coating is thin, and the pulse is fine and rapid.
Additional Acupoints: 【(EX-YT) Ophryon Acupoint】

Treatment Course

It is recommended to perform moxibustion once a day, targeting 2 to 3 acupoints each time, with each acupoint being treated for 30 to 40 minutes. Rotate the points treated, with a 10-day period constituting one course of treatment, and then rest for 2 to 3 days before continuing with the next course.

(If time permits and there is a need, more acupoints can be treated with moxibustion. The specific duration should be adjusted according to one's own physical needs.)

Life Tips

1. Moxibustion has good therapeutic effects in conditioning this disease, which can calm the shock and stop convulsions for emergency treatment. After stopping convulsions, it is necessary to identify the cause and adopt corresponding treatment measures.

2. During a convulsion attack, the child should lie on their side and loosen the collar of the clothes. A gauze-wrapped tongue depressor should be placed between the child's upper and lower teeth to prevent tongue biting during convulsions. Oxygen should be administered.
