Moxibustion Treatment

Prolapsed Rectum

Symptom Analysis

Prolapsed Rectum is a condition characterized by the protrusion of the rectal mucosa or the entire rectal wall outside the anus after defecation or during exertion, squatting, etc. The main symptom of this condition is the protrusion of the anal canal. It is often caused by long-term constipation, diarrhea, prostate enlargement, difficulty in urination, chronic cough, etc., which lead to a continuous increase in abdominal pressure and push the rectum downward.

Prolapsed Rectum falls under the category of "Tuogang" in Traditional Chinese Medicine. In children, it may be due to insufficient vital energy and Qi; in the elderly or weak, it may be due to insufficient Qi and blood; in women, it may be due to the consumption of energy and Qi during childbirth, or due to prolonged illness and physical deficiency leading to the sinking of central Qi, loss of function in the body's fixation, and resulting in the external protrusion of the anal canal and rectum.

Moxibustion Acupoint Selection

Auxiliary Acupoint Selection

Spleen Deficiency and Rebellious Qi Type: During defecation or coughing, or after traveling, there is a protrusion of a mass within the rectum, varying in severity, with a pale red color, a feeling of heaviness and fullness in the anus, fatigue and lack of strength, and poor appetite; pale tongue, white coating, and weak pulse.
Damp-Heat Pouring Downward Type: The rectum is difficult to retract, with swelling, redness, burning heat, oozing and flowing of fluids, and aching pain in the anus; the tongue is red, the coating is yellow and greasy, and the pulse is slippery and rapid.

Treatment Course

It is recommended to perform moxibustion once a day, targeting 2 to 3 acupoints each time, with each acupoint being treated for 30 to 40 minutes. Rotate the points treated, with a 10-day period constituting one course of treatment, and then rest for 2 to 3 days before continuing with the next course.

(If time permits and there is a need, more acupoints can be treated with moxibustion. The specific duration should be adjusted according to one's own physical needs.)

Life Tips

Prolapsed Rectum poses many risks to a person's body and daily life, so we should take the following measures to strengthen prevention:

1. Timely treatment of enteritis and diarrhea is important, especially for children.

2. People with habitual constipation or difficulty in bowel movements should eat more vegetables and fruits. Avoid straining during bowel movements and do not stay in the toilet for a long time reading.

3. Timely treatment of diseases that can increase abdominal pressure, such as whooping cough, is necessary.

4. Perform anal sphincter exercises twice a day, with 30 contractions and relaxations of the anus each time.

5. Dietary therapy recipe: Morinda and Cistanche Chicken Intestine Soup.
