Moxibustion Treatment

Mastitis.

Symptom Analysis

Mastitis refers to an acute or chronic inflammation or abscess of the breast tissue caused by the invasion of pyogenic bacteria into the mammary glands. This condition is primarily due to the obstruction of milk ducts and the accumulation of milk, which then leads to secondary bacterial infection, and is commonly seen in nursing mothers.

Different types of mastitis present with different symptoms. Symptoms of acute simple mastitis include breast pain, local skin warmth, tenderness, and the presence of an ill-defined hard mass with tenderness upon touch. Acute purulent mastitis manifests as redness, swelling, heat, and pain in the affected area, with a more pronounced hard mass that is more painful when touched, accompanied by symptoms such as chills, high fever, headache, and a rapid pulse, and there may be enlarged lymph nodes in the armpit. Severe cases of mastitis can even lead to septicemia. However, at the onset of mastitis, moxibustion applied to the following acupoints, based on the symptoms and choosing 2-3 points each time, can have a significant therapeutic effect.

Moxibustion Acupoint Selection

Auxiliary Acupoint Selection

Symptom one: High fever, red and swollen breasts, skin redness with a burning sensation, and softening of the lump.
Symptom two: Severe breast distension and pain.

Treatment Course

It is recommended to perform moxibustion once a day, targeting 2 to 3 acupoints each time, with each acupoint being treated for 30 to 40 minutes. Rotate the points treated, with a 10-day period constituting one course of treatment, and then rest for 2 to 3 days before continuing with the next course.

(If time permits and there is a need, more acupoints can be treated with moxibustion. The specific duration should be adjusted according to one's own physical needs.)
