Ankle sprain is an injury to the tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels around the ankle joint without the occurrence of fractures or dislocations, and it can occur at any age.
Clinically, it is mainly characterized by severe pain at the site of the sprain, limited joint flexion and extension, local tenderness, and rapid swelling. The next day, discoloration such as bruising and purplish changes may appear, and severe cases may exhibit a limping gait. Sprains are divided into inversion and eversion types based on the site of injury, with the former being more common.
For ankle sprains, first apply cold compresses to stop bleeding, and after 24 hours, apply warm compresses and moxibustion to help disperse the bruising.
It is recommended to perform moxibustion once a day, targeting 2 to 3 acupoints each time, with each acupoint being treated for 30 to 40 minutes. Rotate the points treated, with a 10-day period constituting one course of treatment, and then rest for 2 to 3 days before continuing with the next course.
(If time permits and there is a need, more acupoints can be treated with moxibustion. The specific duration should be adjusted according to one's own physical needs.)
