Coughing is a protective respiratory reflex action that helps to clear the respiratory tract of secretions or foreign objects. It is a primary symptom of respiratory system diseases, commonly seen in upper respiratory tract infections, bronchitis, bronchiectasis, tuberculosis, and others.
The formation and onset of coughing are related to repeated respiratory infections. In patients with cough, there may be specific antibodies to bacteria, viruses, and mycoplasma. If the corresponding antigens are inhaled, they can trigger coughing. Changes in temperature and air pressure can induce coughing, which is why it is more common in cold seasons or during the transition from autumn to winter.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, coughing is believed to be caused by external factors affecting the six qi, and internal organ injuries affecting the lung's qi mechanism of ascent and descent.
It is recommended to perform moxibustion once a day, targeting 2 to 3 acupoints each time, with each acupoint being treated for 30 to 40 minutes. Rotate the points treated, with a 10-day period constituting one course of treatment, and then rest for 2 to 3 days before continuing with the next course.
(If time permits and there is a need, more acupoints can be treated with moxibustion. The specific duration should be adjusted according to one's own physical needs.)
