Moxibustion Treatment

Central retinitis.

Symptom Analysis

Central retinitis is a common chronic disease of the fundus, caused by adverse factors in the internal and external environment, such as mental tension or excitement, excessive mental labor, and focal infection, which lead to abnormal central nervous function and produce vasospasm. This results in disorders of the blood circulation and nutrition of the retina, causing blood cells or plasma to seep out and damage the function of the retina.

In this condition, the appearance of the eyes is usually normal, but the initial symptom is a weakening of central vision, with borderless, attentional shadows, and disturbances in color perception, particularly for blue and yellow. As the condition progresses, a shadow appears in front of the eyes, which may even present colors such as cyan, green, blue, azure, red, and yellow.

Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that this disease is often caused by emotional disorders, failure of the liver qi to be properly dispersed, obstruction of qi and blood, or prolonged viewing causing blood injury, and deficiency of liver blood leading to lack of nourishment.

Treatment Course

It is recommended to perform moxibustion once a day, targeting 2 to 3 acupoints each time, with each acupoint being treated for 30 to 40 minutes. Rotate the points treated, with a 10-day period constituting one course of treatment, and then rest for 2 to 3 days before continuing with the next course.

(If time permits and there is a need, more acupoints can be treated with moxibustion. The specific duration should be adjusted according to one's own physical needs.)

Life Tips

1. Central retinitis is mainly caused by excessive fatigue or high levels of mental stress, so it is important to establish good work and rest habits and eliminate factors that can induce the disease.

2. If conservative treatment is not effective, surgical intervention should be carried out as soon as possible.
