Tonsillitis is a condition that occurs when the body's immune system is weakened, manifesting in both acute and chronic forms. The main symptoms include sore throat and discomfort, along with chills, fever, and headache. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is also known as "ru e," often accompanied by a certain degree of acute inflammation of the pharyngeal mucosa and lymphatic tissue. This disease commonly occurs in children and adolescents, divided into acute and chronic tonsillitis. Due to the varying resistance levels in individuals and the different types of bacteria causing inflammation, the symptoms can differ; some people may experience colds, swollen lymph nodes, oral ulcers, etc.
Moxibustion therapy for this condition, by targeting different acupoints based on the specific symptoms, can help to disperse wind and heat, relieve the throat, reduce swelling, and nourish yin and moisten the lungs.
It is recommended to perform moxibustion once a day, targeting 2 to 3 acupoints each time, with each acupoint being treated for 30 to 40 minutes. Rotate the points treated, with a 10-day period constituting one course of treatment, and then rest for 2 to 3 days before continuing with the next course.
(If time permits and there is a need, more acupoints can be treated with moxibustion. The specific duration should be adjusted according to one's own physical needs.)
To prevent tonsillitis, it is important to enhance one's own immune system. To achieve this, we should eat more fresh vegetables and fruits, drink plenty of water, exercise regularly, get plenty of sunlight, and pay attention to adjusting clothing according to temperature changes. Additionally, during the flu season, try to avoid crowded public places to prevent cross-infection that could lead to respiratory diseases and trigger tonsillitis. Moreover, besides moxibustion, you can try the following methods:
1. Use traditional Chinese medicine formulas that clear heat and detoxify, such as honeysuckle, Isatis root, and dandelion.
2. If the inflammation is caused by Yin deficiency and excessive fire, use ingredients like lily bulbs and Rehmannia to reduce internal heat.
3. If the inflammation is not caused by bacterial infection, avoid using antibiotics indiscriminately and drink more water to alleviate symptoms.
